This artwork is inspired by legendary jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and his unmistakable expanded cheeks while playing. Gillespie helped pioneer bebop in the 1940s, transforming jazz through complex rhythms, improvisation, and technical freedom. His famous cheeks developed through his unique approach to controlling the intense air pressure required to play the trumpet and became a visual signature of his performances. In this portrait, the exaggerated cheeks symbolize breath, pressure, discipline, and the physical power behind jazz.
